NEW YORK — If the Yankees were looking to change their tune heading into game two of the World Series, they couldn’t have picked better musical guests. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys rocked the sell-out crowd at Yankee Stadium with a raucous performance of the Big Apple anthem “Empire State of Mind.”
Decked out in his trademark Yankee fitted hat and matching jacket, Jay was looking to rally his team after a loss Wednesday. From the sound of things, he certainly did. The stadium thundered its approval after the duo’s performance.
“I made the Yankees hat more famous than a Yankee can,” he rapped from a stage placed in the outfield.
Swizz Beatz and Bruce Willis were among the many famous New Yorkers in attendance who swayed to the rapper’s lyrics.
“New Yoooorrrrk,” Keys sang from behind her piano before joining Jay-Z out front.
Images of the city flashed across several giant screens throughout the stadium.
The Yanks and the legendary MC already have a working relationship with each other. Derek Jeter uses “Empire State of Mind” as his at-bat music, and slugger Alex Rodriguez steps up to the batter’s box to the Roc Nation head honcho’s “Already Home.”
Jay-Z seemed to sense the moment and, as usual, rose to the occasion like Jeter would. “Let’s go,” he said afterward as he walked into the bowels of the stadium and climbed into the Maybach waiting for him.
After Thursday’s (October 29) game, the series shifts to Philadelphia, where the champs will host games three, four and (if necessary) five at Citizens Bank Ballpark.

Watch the Blueprint 3 album cover come to life in this fascinating behind-the-scenes video.
Jay-Z confirmed that the graphic that hit the Internet on Monday (August 3) — a gaggle of white instruments piled together in a corner with three red horizontal lines over them — is the artwork for Blueprint 3. “It’s the album cover,” Jay told us Tuesday in Brooklyn, on the set of his Roc-A-Wear commercial.
Jay said he chose to highlight the instruments on his cover because he felt they have been overlooked.
“These things are like the forgotten pieces in hip-hop,” Hov explained. “It’s still about music. It’s not about radio, making gimmicks — it’s still about making music. Those things are piled in the corner. These are the forgotten things about music. It’s still about music. It’s not about radio, it’s not about making gimmicks, it’s about music. The three stripes that everybody is asking about is made from the original [number] three. The first three they made on the wall was someone carving. If you look at [the number] 3, all they did was connect lines. The whole thing about this album, how I approached it, is that I wanted to make a new classic to start that all over again — to go back to making classic albums like the ones we grew up listening to.”
Jay is up for two VMAs. “I feel fantastic,” he said after hearing the news of the nominations.
Hov’s Blueprint 3 will be released on September 11.

Kim Peek (born November 11, 1951) is a prodigious savant known as a megasavant. He has a photographic or eidetic memory, but also social developmental disabilities, possibly resulting from congenital brain abnormalities. He was the inspiration for the character of Raymond Babbit, played by Dustin Hoffman, in the movie Rain Man. He is not autistic and likely has FG syndrome.
Kim Peek was born with macrocephaly, damage to the cerebellum, and, perhaps most important, agenesis of the corpus callosum, a condition in which the bundle of nerves that connects the two hemispheres of the brain is missing; in Peek’s case, secondary connectors such as the anterior commissure are also missing. There is speculation that his neurons make other connections in the absence of a corpus callosum, which results in an increased memory capacity. According to Peek’s father, Fran, Peek was able to memorize things from the age of 16-20 months. He read books, memorized them, and then placed them upside down on the shelf to show that he had finished reading them, a practice he still maintains. He reads a book in about an hour, and remembers almost everything he has read, memorizing vast amounts of information in subjects ranging from history and literature, geography, and numbers to sports, music, and dates. His reading technique consists of reading the left page with his left eye and the right page with his right eye and in this way can read two pages at time with a rate of about 8-10 seconds per page. He can recall the content of some 12,000 books from memory.
Peek resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
