Kanye West – Power (Single Cover Art)

We all knew the Kanye return was official after this track leaked but just to solidify it he opened up the 2010 BET Awards with dramatic performance. Unfortunately people were concerned more about the $300,000 jewelry he had on than the actual performance. Either way there shouldn’t be too much doubt that the fall/winter will belong to Mr. West as he and his G.O.O.D. music minions plan to take over the game on September 14th.

His first single from the new album just hit iTunes with some fancy new artwork by George Condo, I can’t tell if any changes have been made to the song which means there probably hasn’t been as I can usually pick up on that stuff. Enjoy.

Woman Sues Movie Theater After Being Arrested For Recording Twilight

Remember the woman who was arrested for recording two minutes of Twilight in a movie theater? Turns out that after spending two days in jail, she decided to sue the movie theater in which she was caught.

A 22-year-old woman jailed two days in November after being arrested for filming two brief snippets of a motion picture is lashing back at the theater, claiming its manager demanded her arrest despite the police department’s reluctance.

In a civil suit lodged in Illinois federal court, Samantha Tumpach claims local police and the Motion Picture Association of American recommended against arresting her. A felony theater-filming charge carrying up to three years in prison was subsequently dropped.

The woman filed suit Monday, claiming emotional distress and malicious prosecution on behalf of Muvico Theaters, whose manager allegedly demanded her arrest in a bid to win a financial reward. The MPAA, and the National Association of Theater Owners offers $500 rewards (.pdf) to movie house workers who catch pirates.

The first person arrested for filming in a U.S. theater, a federal and state crime in most states, was a 19-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in 2007. Jhannet Sejas paid a $71 fine for filming 20 seconds of Transformers in a Virginia theater. Regal Entertainment Group pushed for her prosecution.

On Tumpach’s camera, the authorities found a host of pictures she took in the theater of her friends and sister, in addition to two clips of the motion pictureTwilight: New Moon, according to the suit. One was 114 seconds long. The other was 85 seconds, the suit said.

One of the snippets was captured in hopes of filming Tumpach’s “favorite actor taking his shirt off,” according to the suit.

The lawsuit, which seeks $50,000 in damages, claims the woman did not film with intent to pirate the movie, that instead she was having fun with her friends and family at a birthday party at the Rosemont, Illinois theater.

“Samantha, in the open theater area and in plain view of others, was subsequently placed under arrest, handcuffed and was walked through the theater and out to the officers’ vehicle where she was placed in the rear seat of the squad car, while numerous theater guests witnessed, pointed and gasped as Samantha cried with fright, humiliation and shame,” (.pdf) the suit said.

The suit claims that, once local officers took the woman to the station, they called the MPAA for guidance. The suit says the MPAA recommended destroying the footage and releasing her.

Linda Colangelo, a spokeswoman for Muvico Theaters based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was not immediately prepared to comment.

Eminem’s ‘Recovery’ Explodes At No. 1 on Billboard 200 With 741,000

Eminem's "Recovery" will blast in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week with 741,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan -- the largest sales week for a single album since October 2008, when AC/DC's "Black Ice" debuted with 784,000 in its first week.

“Recovery” is the hip-hop king’s sixth straight No. 1 debut — and sixth overall chart-topper on the Billboard 200. His only set to miss the top spot was his “Slim Shady LP” debut, which bowed and peaked at No. 2 in 1999. Among hip-hop acts with the most No. 1 albums, only Jay-Z has earned more, with 11.

“Recovery’s” debut week sales surpasses the first week of Eminem’s last set, “Relapse,” which began at No. 1 in 2009 with 608,000. It also beats the opening of 2005′s “Curtain Call: The Hits” which entered at No. 1 with 441,000 in 2005.

Eminem’s new album also wows digitally, as downloads made up 255,000 of its first week. That’s the second-biggest digital week for an album in history. Only Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends” notched a larger frame, when it debuted with 288,000 downloads in the summer of 2008.

Eminem also naturally makes big news on the Digital Songs chart with his “Recovery” collaboration with Rihanna titled “Love the Way You Lie.” It debuts at No. 1 with 338,000 downloads sold. It’s the sixth time Em has topped the Digital Songs chart and the second time he’s done it this year, following “Not Afraid’s” entry atop the list back in May with 379,000.

Check back here on Wednesday morning for the full recap of this week’s top 10 on the Billboard 200.

The Facebook Movie Is Coming (Video)

For those who don’t know, there’s a movie about Facebook and one of its co-founders, Mark Zuckerberg. Though we wish the title — “The Social Network” — was a lot more clever, it’s very apparent to anyone who has ever confirmed or made a friend request what director David Fincher is talking about in his latest film.

Based on the Ben Mezrich book, The Accidental Billionaire: The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sexy, Money, Genius and Betrayal, “The Social Network” stars Jesse Eisenberg (whose star is fast rising in Hollywood) as Zuckerberg as well as Justin Timberlake, who plays Napster founder, Sean Parker. Though the teaser trailer doesn’t have any shots from the film, it does feature snappy dialogue from the film. Even without knowing anything else than what we’re shown, we’re going to safely say this movie is a must-see. Update statutes accordingly.

At BET Awards, Chris Brown Takes on the ‘Man in the Mirror’

With fallen stars from Tiger Woods to Eliot Spitzer all taking their turns on the comeback trail these days, could the moment be right for a second coming of Chris Brown? The BET Awards on Sunday night certainly gave Mr. Brown, the tarnished R&B singer, a prominent platform to demonstrate as emotionally — and, at times, theatrically — as possible that he’s ready for the forgiveness of his audience.

Last summer, Mr. Brown was sentenced to six months of community labor and five years of probation after pleading guilty to felonious assault on the pop star Rihanna during an altercation. The incident made him a widely loathed figure and seemed to leave his career in tatters; in June, he was denied entry to Britain, where he had planned a major tour after his visa was denied because of his criminal offense.

But at the BET Awards, which were held in Los Angeles, Mr. Brown took center stage as part of a tribute to Michael Jackson. During his performance of “Man in the Mirror,” Mr. Brown frequently became choked up and at one point fell to his knees — overcome, perhaps, by the symmetry between the song’s lyrics and his own life.

(In case you’ve forgotten how those lyrics go, the chorus of “Man in the Mirror” runs:

I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change

The performance seemed to win over the audience at the Shrine Auditorium. But plenty of home viewers weren’t having it, and some chided Mr. Brown for usurping what was supposed to be an honor for Mr. Jackson.

The music journalist Rob Tannenbaum wrote on his Twitter account that Mr. Brown was “making this about himself, not MJ.” The writer Sean Fennessey wasn’t pleased, either, with the way that Mr. Brown’s moment would probably play out in the news media, writing on his Twitter account, “Commence 10,000 word essays about MJ, abuse, child stars, Chris Brown and forgiveness.”

The Los Angeles Times, meanwhile, set up an online survey that asked, “Was Chris Brown faking it at the BET Awards?” (As of this writing, 1,068 readers have cast votes to say, “Chris was 100% faking a breakdown to get sympathy.” But more than 2,000 voters said Mr. Brown was thinking only of Mr. Jackson.)

Mr. Brown had the last word, at least for the night. After his Jackson tribute, he was announced as the surprise winner of BET’s Fandemonium award, a prize determined by fan votes, beating out apparent favorites like Justin Bieber, Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj.

Stepping to the stage to receive his trophy, Mr. Brown gave a quick acceptance speech. “I let you all down before, but I won’t do it again,” he said. “I promise you.”
